Dear Friends

A big hello from all at French Riding Holidays and as the long summer draws to a close we would just like to let you know what has been happening here….

We have a new member of ‘the team’ Vienna Storm a beautiful filly foal born to Malika in July who takes after her big sister Tiffany in looks. She also has the same friendly temperament and is very self assured, our friendly farmer at Druhl spends hours with her so she loves fuss and attention.

….Talking of Tiffany, Louise, who spent a lot of time with her when she was born sat on her back for the first time last week! Like all our youngsters, Tiffany has been very well handled and so was completely unfazed by the experience. We will back her properly in the New Year and Louise will be the first person to ride her as they have a very special bond.

The optional Midsummer Night Rides introduced this year have proven popular and an awesome experience for all those who took part. Setting out at dusk was really exciting with the horses picking up on the atmosphere.  Returning to the Mas De Clamouze at nightfall through the adjoining valley was magical. Our guests have told us that they felt it heightened their senses on the horses and that the air quality was exceptionally clear. …Don’t forget to enquire about these exciting night adventures when you are booking for 2010.

THANK YOU! We would like to thank our fantastic volunteers who have been such a help to us throughout the Summer.

Emma Bourke, a great young horsewoman from Ireland who joined us for May was wonderful with the horses and her boundless energy and enthusiasm made it easy to see why she was a stalwart of the Irish mounted games team!  Hannah Jordan from London joined us for July, August and September as part of her veterinary studies. Our guests found her great fun and she had a special rapport with some of our more nervous riders.  Louise who took a career break with us in 2007 managed to swing another one and joined us in August. She unfortunately left us in October to travel onto Africa before returning to reality in the UK at Christmas. Derek and I will miss her but have adopted her as our niece so she has to keep coming back to see us!

If you know someone who would like to work with us applications can be made online via our website.

Derek has
again discovered some great new rides ensuring that there is always something
interesting to share with our revisiting guests. Emma has named one of the rides
‘The Enchanted Woods’ as it has a magical air. The ride leads us through
stunning rain forest like scenery to a hidden house with a small lake and other
delights.

HOME PRODUCE

The hot, dry Summer has been brilliant for producing figs, plums and walnuts from our trees. We are busy harvesting the walnuts for drying but can’t keep pace with the figs. Louise has made two batches of fig jam which is delicious but there are only so many figs you can eat in a day!

CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR

We hope you received our recent email flyer detailing our second Christmas Extravaganza. We are planning a new route for the Mounted Team Treasure Hunt and are planning another Murder to solve…….after all we know ‘who dunnit!’
