The hospitality and food were lovely and the riding and horses fun and lively. The weather - soo hot:). We really had a fabulous time and fully intend to save the pennies for a return visit. Name: Carline Pidduck | Date: June 2010 | Email: | Your comments | Dear Anne and Derek This is just to reiterate my sincere gratitude for one of the most fantastic holidays I've ever had in my life!! Julia and I had been talking about it, in the run up, since last Christmas and I think we'll be talking and reminiscing about it until next Christmas too! We had a fantastic time and EVERYTHING was perfect. The horses are so lovely, healthy & well looked after, there was the most wonderful countryside and exciting trails to explore, the accomodation was great - comfortable & clean with a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the food exceeded my expectations and was absolutely delicious! All courses, every single meal time! You're wonderful people and are great at what you do. Tres, tres bien!! Julia and I are now hooked so we hope to be included in your future 'return business' stats some day soon!!! ;-) Best wishes and lots of happiness to you both and special hugs to Louise and Emma too. Carline x |
Name: Gemma Poddington | Date: July 2010 | Email: | Your comments | Hi guys, Thanks for a great weekend, I loved it all - especially the lovely Kym. Thanks to Louise for all the great food and to Derek for his patience, encouragement and 1-1 cantering instruction! I will definitely be back, probably for a half day ride in August with my Weimaraner and husband and maybe for another weekend in September if the dates work out. Thanks again, wish I was still there with you all. Gemma |
Name: Tina Donahue Owatonna, Minnesota, USA | Date: July 2010 | Email: | Your comments | Louise,Emma,Derek,Celine and Nelson (Anne too) Thank you so much for such a great time these past days. My only regret is that it was too short. You have taught me alot as well as providing good company and relaxing time. You really make one feel part of the family and that is greatly appreciated. You have a wonderful place here and I really look forward to seeing you all again.

Name: Maria Padley | Date: July 2010 | Email: maria.padley@getronics.com | Your comments | Thank you so much for an absolutely brilliant holiday. I felt totally looked-after both in and out of the saddle and my riding confidence has increased no end as a result. The winding trails of the Aveyron have to be experienced to be believed, and the picnic ride was the best day's riding I've ever had - bar none!

See you all hopefully in the not too distant furture, Love Sara |
Name: Pam Wilde | Date: July 2010 | Email: | Your comments | Dear All, Thank you all for another great holiday. Even having been twice before it exceeded expectations the rally was a particular highlight (real rural French life). Riding such a variety of horses was really good fun, they are all so responsive and a pleasure to ride. Indiana has the makings of a real star (ok so Im biased, he suited me down to the ground I felt that we were learning together!) and Epi is just a darling. Good to see Anne, Derek and Louise again and to meet Emma everyone was so welcoming and helpful |

Name: Sheryl | Date: May 2010 | Email: shezmills@aol.com | Your comments | I don't think i could ever thank Derek, Anne and Clare enough for such an amazing experience. They have given me back the pleasure of riding when i was just beginning to to think i should hang up my riding boots for good. They have given me so much more confidence than i ever imagined i would have again after a rather nasty, unfortunate accident some 11 years ago. The combination of truly amazing and trustworthy horses and the knowledge and experience of Derek, Anne and Clare culminated in something quite unique! I turned up on a Wednesday evening an very nervous rider unable to ride in open spaces and went home on the Sunday afternoon after experiencing some fabulous and extreme rides wanting more. My time there was certainly not long enough and i hope to go back again soon. Again a very big thank you and i wish them all the best for the future.

Name: Sarah & Florence | Date: April 2010 | Email: | Your comments | Thank you for a fabulous week. We were in the saddle within 45 minutes of arriving and captivated by the FRH experience just as quickly. Your passion, warm hospitality, incredible scenery and marvellous horses have made this a wonderful experience. To think we had hoped for a gallop!! Sarah P.S. Meant to say the best company too! Thank you for everything; I have galloped, jumped (the log in the woods) and ridden bareback! All I need to do now is find a way of coming back again! Florence x

Name: Lynn & Paul Craig | Date: March 2010 | Email: nnylcr@aol.com | Your comments | We recently spent 3 perfect days with Derek, Anne & Clare on our first riding holiday as beginners. Everything was better than we imagined it would be - the food and drink was very good and plentiful, the company was fantastic, the Gite was clean, comfortable and really cosy with a log fire in the evenings, but best of all was the horses (especially Epice and Kaj)and the great rides that Derek introduced us to, our confidence got a boost and we can't wait till its time when we can visit again. Many thanks to all three of you, and hope to see you again one day. Lynn & Paul

Name: angela grimes | Date: March 2010 | Email: ange.grimes@yahoo.co.uk | Your comments | I have just come back from my second great stay with Derek and Anne. As ever, the food and accomodation were brilliant, and the company marvellous. Derek really tested me this time, and I have to admit I was quite dubious about one particular testing canter, but I had faith in the lovely Kaj, and Derek's judgement, and had a great ride. It was a great sense of achievement, given that last year I didn't want to canter at all!! The horses all look very well, and the gorgeous Oracle, Epi and Kajoline looked after me perfectly. I can whole-heartedly recommend French Riding Holidays for all abilities of rider, and will certainly be returning again and again - if they'll have me! |
Name: Susan | Date: November 2009 | Email: susan.wylie@gmail.com | Your comments | I only came for a weekend and the only thing I regret about my time was that it was so short! I had a fantastic time - I am not the most confident of riders and yet I felt 100% safe and looked after by the guides and my horse. As someone who has come to riding as an adult and found it initially daunting it is refreshing to have it demystified and made so very enjoyable. I will be back and am in the process of convincing my husband that he must come as well :) |
Name: Feargal,Sue & Ella | Date: November 2009 | Email: feargal@bartons.ie | Your comments | Hi Derek & Anne,
Sorry for the delay in posting a message in the guestbook. Just to say thank you for a great few days. We had a super time and I can recommend this wonderful holiday/location to anybody. As said in previous posts , food was great , ride outs were great and the company was great 10 out of 10 !!
Take Care Feargal,Sue & Ella |
Name: Jayne Brawn | Date: November 2009 | Email: jaynebrawn@blueyonder.co.uk | Your comments | Just spent another week at FRh and yet again had a perfect riding holiday. Derek, Anne and of course the horses have still got the magic and we will return! Great new rides, perfect horses, fabulous weather, lovely food, what more could we want? Don't answer that Derek!!!!! Thanks again. Jayne Brawn |
Name: Alex | Date: November 2009 | Email: | Your comments | Cara and I had a fabulous time, the food was brilliant, home made and tasty, lots of wine if you wanted it. The horses were individual and each had a way of being ridden which Derek explained so you could enjoy the nature of the horse together with the beautiful countryside and amazing views. We had lovely t shirt weather and no rain so picked a great week. The accomodation was comfy but the hot showers and log fire helped any stiffness dissapear. We want to go back next year and thanks Derek and Ann for making us welcome. Carrots and kisses to Nelson and Kajoline....... Alex |
Name: Raj & Nicola Moody | Date: October 2009 | Email: | Your comments | This is what holidays are all about for us: we have really appreciated the chilled out lifestyle, the fantastic scenery, excellent riding which has catered for the expert in my wife and the novice in me, and of course the delicious and hearty home cooked meals which have been spot on (in particular the pastry dam was an innovation to remember). Thank you Derek, Anne and Louise for your good company, great humour and apparently effortless hospitality (although we know how much constant hard work goes on behind the scenes) |
Name: Richard Clader & Rebecca Goss | Date: October 2009 | Email: | Your comments | Not so much a holiday, as more a truly magical experience. The scenery is magnificent, the hospitality unsurpassed. The horses are incredible and a testament to the time, effort, care and love they receive. Derek Anne and Louise , your passion and enthusiasm is without bounds and make FRH what it is. Do not change!! Will see you again soon!!! Many thanks |
Name: Jonathan & Alice Wilton | Date: October 2009 | Email: | Your comments | Alice and I enjoyed our week at Mas de Clamouze unreservedly. To comment honestly, we have to repeat many previous posts, but that can't be helped. We found the people great- warm and welcoming and good company. The horses were as advertised-very fit, enthusiastic, forgiving where necessary and a joy to ride. They really do want to be chosen every morning. If they could stick their hands up and say "Take me! Take me!" you get the feeling they would. Whatever your standard when you arrive, I bet you learn something new about horses and about yourself before you leave. Even if it is only just how steep a slope a horse can get down if you keep out of it...I have to say something about the food- it was fantastic, every day of our week. And it is again, as advertised, all inclusive. You could leave your wallet at home. And what a beautiful, unspoiled part of France this is. I think it is the most enjoyable week's holiday either of us can remember. We would recommend it to anyone. Jonathan & Alice Wilton Bahrain |
Name: Lynn Baxter | Date: September 2009 | Email: | Your comments | Dear Anne and Derek Hope you are all well and still enjoying the wonderful weather. Just a line or two to thank you so much for such a lovely time at Maz de Clamouze. You work so hard to make everyones visit so enjoyable. Everything exceeded expectations...the people, horses, the riding, accommodation, scenery and weather. The food was wonderful and I cant believe I ate so well and so much and returned home a few pounds lighter.. brilliant! Thank you Derek for restoring my confidence with the riding. I really appreciated that situations(e.g. sliding down a bank) were presented and handled in such a calm way that it just did not occur to me that I couldnt do it. I can see why people make return visits and I would love to book again and hope you will continue to accept solo bookings. There are at least 10 horses I havent ridden yet! Please give my best wishes and thanks to Hannah and Louise too. Thanks again and kindest regards Lynn Baxter

Name: Fiona and Anya | Date: August 2009 | Email: michaelhearn300@btinternet.com | Your comments | My daughter and I have just returned from 5 days in August 2009 and are struggling to find the right words to describe our time there. It was undoubtedly our BEST holiday ever., however not so much a holiday as a magical and unique experience. If you can ride you will be richly rewarded with fun, fit horses on challenging rides in breathtaking countryside. Once out of the saddle we shared wonderful meals, (superbly crafted by Anne, Louise and Hannah)and stories with people we now call "friends". If your riding ability is limited you have to believe everything it says on the web site about Derek - he is extremely inspirational and his passion for horses knows no bounds. Put your trust in him and you will have an amazing time.I am certain of only one thing........ We will DEFINITELY return.... again and again and again. Ps Derek - I haven't forgotten I owe you a soaking!!! |
Name: David, Jacqui, & Emily | Date: August 2009 | Email: david.haydock2@btopenworld.com | Your comments | This last week has been a whole new experience for us. It started as slightly anxious beginners with only a few hours in the saddle and ended as competent and confident riders on horses we would have struggled with at the start (Nelson, what a dude!). The whole set up and all of you are just brilliant. And now we have raced horses as well as motorbikes, but Emily isn't letting us forget she beat us both! We will be back!!

Name: Roberts family, Cardiff | Date: August 2009 | Email: gillianfroberts@aol.com | Your comments | Wed all like to thank Derek and Anne (plus Hannah and Georgie!) for an amazing week at Mas de Clamouze. I had no real experience of riding, and Gill wasnt convinced that she would even get on a horse, but by the end of the week we both felt thoroughly comfortable on our horses. Lewys started as an absolute beginner, but after a couple of days was off with the more experienced riders. Angharad had ridden before, but now knows how to do it properly! The company was excellent and the food wonderful (helped down by local wines!). We wholeheartedly recommend French Riding Holidays to both beginners and experienced riders. A return visit is definitely on the cards!

Name Fiona and Caris Duroe | Date: August 2009 | Email: fiduroe@hotmail.com | Your comments | Our expectations were exceeded on every level. The horses we rode were all superb and very well cared for. Caris and I miss being with you and would definitely recommend FRH to anyone wanting a riding holiday in a breathtakingly beautiful, quiet location, with great and plentiful food, wine, company and laughs. The accommodation is bright, clean and comfortable and the view from our bedroom of the village with the horses in the field opposite is a sight to behold. So is the scenery on the rides; it was all I could do to stop singing! (I cant sing, apparently). Derek and Anne will do their best to give you the holiday you want, matching the horse to your ability and taking you out on rides which will thrill you if thats your bag or reassure you if thats what you need. Derek, the race in the big meadow was the BEST moment... At the end of each full day, we were presented with platefuls of lovely fresh food, and lots of wine. Dereks onion bhajis (Le Bhaji) and Annes Bread n Butter pudding were the high culinary points for me; OK not typically French but what you want after a long day. French style cuisine is there though; I reckon it should be described as fusion food! I feel privileged to have ridden such quality horses; Maluga was so fast and exciting, while Kajoline was reassuring and gentle. In between I had the pleasure of Mithral and Oracle, both beautiful and easy to ride. Caris wanted to take Kim home... We hope to see you again very soon. Thanks to you and your staff for a very enjoyable time.

Name Sally & Leah Morgan | Date: May 2009 | Email: sallymorgy@yahoo.co.uk | Your comments | We have just returned from a holiday with Anne and Derek and its hard to find anything to say that hasnt already been written here in the guest book. It really is as amazing as everybody says. We were instantly made to feel like part of the family, Anne cooked us the best food we have ever tasted, with Doogie and Bertie providing exceptional entertainment on a daily basis!! Dereks horsemanship skills were truly unbelievable. He improved our riding technique more in a week, than we would have achieved in months back home. The horses are absolutely amazing (mythral and Komadoor especially),all with individual characters, to suit all abilities and desires. We cant wait to go back again and again and again!! P.S Hope the finger is better Derek.xx |
Name Vanessa Courbet | Date: May 2009 | Email: dormy.house@wanadoo.fr | Your comments | For anyone looking for the perect riding holiday, look no longer you have found it. You want exiting rides? FRH have them. You want breathtaking scenery ? FRH has it. You want happy, surefooted horses with individual character ? FRH has them. You are looking for comfortable accommadation good food & wine ? FRH provides !! You are looking for fantastic hospitality and great company ? This is the place! So you may say that hundreds of other riding holidays offer the same things. But FRH have a secret ingredient. Derek Parker. His love of and understanding of his horses is magic. His knowlege of the horses, the terrain, the weather etc is awesome. The way that he can instantly match a rider to a horse who will then have the confidence to do things never done on horseback before !! Derek is definately what makes FRH so special and after having been 6 times already I can't recommend it enough. Thanks Derek + Anne it ws FAB !!!!! |
Name Jayne Brawn | Date: April 2009 | Email: jaynebrawn@blueyonder.co.uk | Your comments | What more can I say that hasn't been said? See you in June Jayne xxx |
Name Sarah | Date: April 2009 | Email: sarahtreacy@gmail.com | Your comments | I needed a break from city life and decided to travel to Mas De Clamouze alone for a 3 night stay in March. I was initially a little worried about travelling alone but should not have been as I was immediately made to feel welcome and part of the family by Derek and Anne as soon as I arrived. I for the full 3 days through the beautiful french countryside stopping off one day at a restaurant for a delicious 3 course meal (and a glass or two of yummy wine!), then off again for the ride home! The horses are all lovely and good natured, I especially wanted to take Kajoline home with me! she is absolutely gorgeous! The views out to the valley are amazing. Unfortunately, I was too early in the year to use the pool but am looking forward to coming back in the warmer months to enjoy a bbq too! Although the weather I experienced in March was beautiful not too hot but with glorious sunshine all day. I was nervous about hacking out at first but Derek made me feel really confident in my riding after my first day of hacking and my nerves had disappeared! - you cannot help but feel relaxed riding accross acres and acres of unspoilt countryside, up and down mountain trails and through rivers, this really is a magical place and I am really looking forward to coming back. |
Name Steve Ship | Date: March 2009 | Email: stevejship1@aol.com | Your comments | Dear Ann and Derek
Just a quick thank you for another great trip and a quick insight for others Contemplating a visit to FRH
If you love to ride great horses in fantastic country side and enjoy exceptional company then this is the place for you, its as simple as that.
Derek and Anne are your hosts and they will do everything they can to ensure that you have a wonderful experience. It doesn't matter what level of rider you are they will devote plenty of time to you and will ensure that you have the right horse.
Unlike some riding holidays you can have much as or as little to do with preparing the horses as you like but it wont be long before you've bonded with your favourite and are rushing down in the morning to tack up.
This holiday experience has consistently received rave reviews, check out tripadvisor, for a number of reasons, obviously the horses and the riding, the pool in the summer and the hot picnics in the winter but for me it is because of Derek and Anne who not only make you feel welcome but part of the family......... they are the icing on the cake and they will soon become your friends.
Jane and I are lucky enough to have participated in a number of riding holidays around the world but this is the only one that we keep returning to, four times so far and have plans to return soon. Whether you go for a week or a weekend I dare you not to return.
Steve and Jane

We felt very well looked after and appreciate all the trouble that you both went to (Catherine says thanks in particular for extra lessons and vegetarian meals!). Anna & Catherine |
Name Peter Chapman & Chris Hardie | Date: January 2009 | Email: chappers@globalnet.co.uk | Your comments | We have just returned from a superb Christmas with Derek and Ann. It is difficult to know what to praise first, the hospitality, the riding, the horses, the scenery? All were excellent. Being novice riders did not stop us being encouraged right to the limits of our abilities, which was utterly rewarding and exhilerating. Once we had learnt to trust the horses, who are very comfortable in this challenging terrain, and once Derek had confirmed we knew how to stop them, we went as far and as fast as time and weather permitted. There is nothing more exhilerating than a canter through beautiful woods. There were many "Thelwell" moments, and you had to remember to stop and take in the stunning views. Oh, and there was the hip-flask. On our returns to the gite, Anne's cooking was plentiful and excellent, and wine and beer flowed freely. It did not feel like being on holiday so much as staying with friends. Want a relaxed Christmas away from your day to day responsibilities? French Riding Holidays are difficult to beat! Thank you Derek and Ann. |
Name John Tyler | Date: November 2008 | Email: | Your comments | I have visited French Riding Holidays three times and am happy to admit that the place is now thoroughly under my skin! All that is written by other guests about great horses; fantastic hospitality; the excellent food and the wine is absolutely true. The Aveyron is stunningly beautiful with a perfect climate. Daytime usually has a benign sun shining out of a deep blue sky; night-time has thousands of dazzling stars shining out of an ink-black sky. It is one of the few places in Europe where you can ride for three hours without seeing a car. You ride through lush countryside, untouched woodland and deep river gorges. You then arrive at an ancient but immaculately preserved little town and turn the horses out to graze in a hotel playing field. No one shows the slightest surprise that people should arrive on horseback for lunch. The lunch is typically, leisurely French and lasts for about two hours. After which, you saddle up and ride out of town, the only sound being the clatter of hooves on the traffic free road and an occasional bonjour from friendly locals. The afternoons ride is equally enchanting, following a different route back to Mas de Clamouse. The next days ride would be in another direction but equally thrilling, perhaps this time with a picnic lunch arranged. I cant wait to get back! John Tyler Cheshire 24/11/08 |
Name Sarah | Date: August 2008 | Email: | Your comments | We arrived in a deluge and similarly we left in a deluge. Despite the inclement weather at either end of the holiday my daughter Harriets first words when she got in the car to return home were Can we come back next year? As non riding parents - knowing next to nothing about horses - booking a riding holiday is always act of faith rather than an informed choice. Weve taken Harriet (aged 12yrs) on a number of riding holidays in the past some more successful than others but this has to be the best to date. Ann, Jill and Louise were always so friendly and upbeat nothing was too much trouble. They went out of their way to help with any request however small even when busy preparing delicious meals etc. It is hard to do justice to the enormous contribution Derek made to Harriets enjoyment of the holiday. He gave careful consideration when matching her riding skills with her mounts and as the week progressed we could see her confidence/enjoyment growing. Even at the end of a long day ride he still had the patience and enthusiasm to help her coax her horse over a few jumps. What more could you ask for? Hope to see you all next year (Harriets got her heart set on taking her horse for a swim in the river) Sarah, Trevor & Harriet PS. Forgot to mention that were from Cambridge and stayed with Derek & Ann from 12th 19th Aug 2008. Please include my e-mail address. Thanks Sarah |
Name Kylie | Date: July 2008 | Email: | Your comments | To Derek, Ann, Jill & Louise I'm back in Ireland and feeling like a new woman, thanks to your heady mix of sun, riding, kayaking, swimming, food and just the occasional drop of wine! It was exactly the kind of break I needed, such a treat to be looked after so well, and with such warmth, hospitality and gentle good humour. In these days of timetables, money-making & technology it's food for the soul to arrive somewhere where the weather, the horses & the guests dictate the pace. Best of luck for the summer season, I look forward to coming back and catching up next year sometime.
Kylie
Thanks again |
Name June | Date: July 2008 | Email: | Your comments | Dear Anne, Derek & Jill Hi, I hope you and the horses are all well and that the weather with you is considerably better than the rain we have here!! "I arrived at French Riding Holidays excitedly looking forward to my riding holiday but, I have to admit, with an awful lot of nerves. As a more mature rider I think it could possibly be an age issue but, no doubt about it, the nerves had kicked in big time. My first morning I was introduced to the very lovely Epice who, sensing the wooden passenger she had and realising I was shaking with nerves, looked after me beautifully. She, along with the wonderful Pom Pom and Kajoline, were absolutely wonderful to me and took the best care of me. Derek, Anne and Jill were so supportive and encouraging and I can honestly say that I achieved so much more than I thought I would, including cantering, popping a jump and most importantly, for a nervous rider like myself, feeling wonderfully relaxed and happy and yes, even confident, riding such lovely horses. The food, the wine, the people, the scenery and the weather were all fantastic and I had a ball. So if you are a nervous rider, and you've seen the website and are wondering whether this is the holiday for you - the answer is yes!! It was quite simply the best riding holiday I've ever had and I cannot wait to come back and do it all again". June Marsh |
Name Aly | Date: July 2008 | Email: | Your comments | Derek, Anne & Jill Thank you so much for the most amazing holiday. I cant say enough nice things about you all and your fabulous horses. Everything was absolutely perfect and I will never forget it. I look forward to seeing you all again next year - must dash before I start crying again! Lots of Love, Aly xxxx |
Name Howard & Myrna | Date: July 2008 | Email: | Your comments | Derek, Ann, Jill and Louise Howard and I have been taking riding holidays for the last 7 years (in Portugal, Spain, France, Scotland, and America) and when 2 of our favourite places closed last year (CDA in Portugal and Les Cypres de lEtang in Provence) we wondered whether we could ever replace them. We looked on the net and settled on Dereks organisation. Were happy to endorse all the enthusiastic comments in the guest book. Weve just returned from 8 days at Mas de Clamouze and found our holiday excellent value, with truly interesting riding on good, fit, well cared-for horses in wonderful countryside. This was satisfyingly supported by good food and company plus efficient transfers to and from Mas de Clamouze, tailored to our particular needs. The accommodation is clean, comfortable, and very conveniently placed close to the centre of action. I would recommend French Riding Holidays, especially to others missing CDA or Les Cypres! Howard & Myrna Weetman, Scotland. Holiday 15 -22 July 2008. |
